Which industrial balls should Thailand buyers compare?
For industrial ball sourcing in Thailand, keep automotive drawing parts, food-process valve balls and general handling components on separate approval routes. The automotive supply base supports investigating rolling and positioning parts, while food and chemical processing create different wetted-component questions. Compare the exact material and finished geometry with the assembly, then agree sample evidence, receiving requirements and repeat supply. An EV investment announcement alone does not identify a new loose-ball specification.
Use the automotive supplier base as one enquiry route and food-process equipment as another. Keep vehicle parts, production tools and wetted components distinct.
1. Read the industrial signals through the component.
- Thailand BOI’s automotive brief identifies component-production locations including Bangkok, Samut Prakan, Chonburi and Rayong. It gives a useful starting geography for supplier-chain interviews. [1]
- BOI’s first-half 2025 report records 172 investment-promotion applications in automotive and parts and 184 in agriculture and food processing. It also reports activity in petrochemicals and chemicals. These are applications, not completed investments or confirmed orders for ball components. [2]
Our planning recommendation is to organise content and enquiries around two distinct buyers: the drawing-controlled component supplier and the process-equipment owner. A plant changing its vehicle product mix may continue to buy many established mechanical parts, while a new machine can introduce a separate valve or handling requirement. Ask which assembly is changing before treating electrification as a reason to replace its ball material.
2. Turn the local account into a useful enquiry.
| Buyer / catchment | Investigate this requirement | Ask before shortlisting |
|---|---|---|
| Chonburi / Rayong | Component-maker and production-equipment interviews | Ask whether the requirement is a vehicle part, tooling component or maintenance replacement. |
| Bangkok / Samut Prakan | Engineering, equipment and purchasing coordination | Identify the technical approver and receiving factory separately. |
| Other processing locations | Food, chemical and utility-equipment interviews | Ask for the exact process, cleaning sequence and installed pump or valve. |
The automotive locations are supported by the BOI brief; the interview questions are our proposed approach. Do not assume that every facility in an automotive area buys rolling-element balls. The same company may have separate programmes for detents, fluid components and production fixtures. Keep each programme attached to its own drawing and end customer.
3. Automotive balls in Thailand: locate the part within the assembly.
Start with the function: rolling element, detent, locating feature or fluid-control component. Ask the Thai supplier which customer specification applies and whether the ball is purchased directly or supplied inside a larger module. A loose-ball quotation should not imply responsibility for an entire bearing, steering mechanism or vehicle system.
For a new programme, define the sample submission and change-control route. For an established programme, compare the proposed supply with the approved material condition, finished geometry and reference. Separate the report that identifies the material from evidence that the assembled component meets its functional requirement. The buyer should name any customer-specific documentation before the sample is produced.

4. Food-process check balls: review cleaning as part of the duty.
A wetted component can face product during operation and a different chemical and temperature sequence during cleaning. In a Thai food-equipment enquiry, list both. Include the valve orientation, seat, product viscosity or solids where relevant, and the functional check that the processor or equipment builder will use.
Stainless candidates should be reviewed against the actual environment and finished surface. If another material is proposed, the mass, contact and guidance may need revalidation as well. Keep contact documents specific to the component, product and intended use. A record for a different resin, grade or surface treatment does not automatically cover the ordered ball.
5. Handling and swivel components: choose around the exposed contact.
A caster swivel race, ball-transfer table and linear slide can coexist on the same factory floor while needing different balls. Describe the motion, contact surfaces, load arrangement, lubrication and exposure. Identify whether the buyer needs a loose sphere, replacement internal balls or a complete assembled unit before comparing offers.
For transfer equipment, investigate the handled object’s surface and the consequences of marking it. For a caster, investigate the swivel race and expected movement rather than applying a wheel-load description directly to one sphere. Validate the component in a compatible assembly; the ball’s material name is not a unit or table load rating.

6. Compare the candidate with the function.
Avoid a single material upgrade story for every Thai buyer. A hardened steel component may be selected for its contact duty; a stainless candidate may be reviewed for a particular process exposure; a polymer may be considered for a different handling surface. The useful comparison lists the function each material is being asked to perform and the test needed to approve it.
| Product / material candidate | Why review it here? | Confirm before approval |
|---|---|---|
| AISI 52100 Chrome Steel Balls | Specified rolling and repeated-contact automotive or machinery parts | Confirm drawing, condition, geometry, mating contact and corrosion protection. |
| 440C Stainless Steel Balls | Approved hardened-stainless contact components | Compare the required mechanical contact and operating exposure together. |
| 316 / 316L Stainless Steel Balls | Suitable food-process or chemical-duty valve candidates | Specify medium, temperature, cleaning, seat and finished-part evidence. |
| POM Balls | Appropriate surface-contact or handling components | Identify resin, finished size, contact surface and complete-unit validation. |
Review the linked material information alongside the application requirements. Exact grade, finished dimensions, supply and documents are confirmed for the specific component and order.
Have a component in mind?
Use the candidate list to start a focused discussion. Add the drawing, medium or contact that makes this application specific.
7. Make the specification usable at receiving.
Use a drawing and revision for each automotive item and an equipment-specific acceptance sheet for each process component. Include diameter and units, material condition, geometry, surface, quantity and records. If the drawing refers to another standard or customer document, identify its applicable edition and supply it through the buyer’s authorised process.
Where a Thai plant supplies an overseas assembly customer, clarify who can approve deviations. The local receiving team may inspect dimensions while a separate engineering office controls material changes. Both decisions should be reflected in the purchase record before the production order is released.
| Requirement | Review before sampling | Preserve in the record |
|---|---|---|
| Automotive component | Drawing-defined characteristics and agreed submission | Approval scope and exact sample/production identity. |
| Food-process valve | Wetted material, surface and operating/cleaning sequence | Compatible seat and agreed functional acceptance. |
| Handling assembly | Contact and movement in the actual unit | Object surface, layout and observations under the selected duty. |
8. Localise documents without changing the specification.
Agree the language of the receiving inspection sheet, packing labels and any operator-facing test steps. Thai and English versions should use the same item number, revision and numerical acceptance limits. If a customer drawing contains another language, have the technical owner resolve terminology before translating the receiving instructions.
Ask for the documentation required by the specific programme rather than implying that national industrial growth creates one universal certificate set. Material reports, dimensional inspection, customer submissions and food-contact evidence serve different purposes. State which evidence must accompany the sample and which must accompany every production lot.
9. Plan delivery to the actual receiving team.
Name the factory and test location. An engineering office in Bangkok and a receiving plant on the eastern seaboard may need different sample and production addresses. Include the authorised recipient and keep the lot label with the component if samples are forwarded internally.
For recurring releases, agree packing quantity and identification that fit the buyer’s line-side or maintenance system. Separate similar diameters and grades rather than relying on appearance. Actual supply lead time, shipping terms and any local consolidation should be confirmed for the order; this guide does not represent local stock.
10. Compare the cost of an accepted component.
Compare the cost of an approved part at the required release quantity. For automotive work, include the requested submission and inspection scope. For a process plant, include the sample trial and receiving effort. For handling equipment, distinguish a loose-ball price from an assembled-unit price before deciding which offer is economical.
A proposed substitution should have its own evaluation cost and approval decision. If the saving depends on fewer documents or looser geometry, make that difference visible. It may be a suitable proposal for one general machine component and unacceptable for a separate customer-controlled part.
11. Move from a sample to a repeatable order.
Begin with the assembly and acceptance owner, then submit a traceable sample against the agreed requirement. Use a controlled trial with the actual seat, race or unit. Record the conditions so the result can be interpreted when the production lot arrives.
After the first repeat lot, review any inspection discrepancy and update the order specification if needed. Expand to another programme only after comparing its requirements. The presence of the same buyer, industrial estate or vehicle category is not a sufficient basis for carrying approval across different components.

12. Questions Thailand buyers ask.
Which ball enquiries are worth separating in Thailand?
Separate automotive drawing parts, production-equipment motion components, food-process valve balls and handling units. They have different approval owners and tests. BOI’s industry context helps identify interview routes; it does not supply the specification for a loose ball.
Does an EV project require a different ball material?
Only the component design and operating conditions can establish that. Some parts may retain an existing specification; others may change their function or exposure. Ask for the new assembly drawing and an explicit engineering comparison before proposing a material change.
What should a food-equipment buyer include?
Identify the product, cleaning agents, temperatures, seat, orientation and functional test. Include the exact contact-document requirement and the party that will approve it. Confirm both operation and cleaning rather than describing the duty only as food grade.
Can a Thai factory approve samples locally?
That depends on its customer and internal authority. Identify who controls dimensions, material changes and the assembly trial. Connect the local receiving record with any external engineering approval so a repeat lot follows one agreed specification.
13. Prepare a Thailand component brief.
Illustrative request: a Thai component maker is releasing a spring-loaded positioning part for a new customer programme. Supply the controlled ball drawing, material condition, mating engagement geometry, sample submission requirements and approval owner. Quote the qualification lot separately from the first production release. If a second request concerns a food-line check ball, issue a new item with its own medium, cleaning and contact-document scope.
